At COP29, IRENA launched the Accelerated Partnership for Renewable Energy in Central Asia (APRECA), an initiative designed to fast-track a renewables-driven energy transition across the region. APRECA aims to expand clean energy access, enhance regional trade and exports through connectivity, stimulate economic growth and advance green industrialisation within Central Asian countries and neighbouring markets. Currently, APRECA members include Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.

Building on this momentum, IRENA is organising the Central Asia Energy Transition Investment Forum, scheduled for June 1-2, 2026, in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of Baku Energy Week 2026. The forum will bring together governments, financial institutions, project developers, and other key stakeholders to facilitate the advancement of renewable energy projects across Central Asia.

The forum will feature high-level and expert discussions on enabling frameworks and investment priorities in the region. It will also include capacity-building sessions focused on developing compelling project proposals to attract investment, covering key concepts of proposal development, as well as project matchmaking and exhibition opportunities to connect project proponents with potential investors and financiers. This forum objectives are to accelerate renewable energy deployment, foster regional cooperation, and unlock investment opportunities vital for a sustainable energy future in Central Asia.

High-level Opening & Ministerial Dialogue

Day 1 will feature a high-level opening and a Ministerial Dialogue on Promoting Renewables-Driven Energy Transition in Central Asia. The discussions will focus on various aspects that facilitate energy transition investments and improve access to finance in the region.

Capacity Building

This session will focus on developing compelling project proposals to attract investments and on leveraging IRENA’s project facilitation tools to empower developers in effectively accessing finance.

Project Exhibition & Financial Matchmaking

2:00 PM – 6:00 PM  |  Session Room: A5

This session aims to facilitate connections between project proponents and potential financial and commercial partners and will be carried out in an exhibition-style. Attendees can also schedule bilateral meetings with project developers, to explore collaboration and investment opportunities.
